Sensory Escape

The owner of Sensory Escape wanted a vacation home where families with different sensory needs would feel welcome, including kids who get overstimulated easily. It would host her own family’s vacations and be a rental for other families. Separate zones for adults, younger kids and older kids were really important to her, so we gave each group its own floor.

She loved a modern coastal look, and the main level is where it shows most. We kept it neutral and serene, with soft colors, natural textures and neutral upholstery. This floor is where the adults and the whole group gather, so it had to seat a lot of people. We used two sectionals plus extra chairs and arranged them so the whole group fits.

We gave the entire second floor to younger kids and sensory play, with different options for different needs: an indoor trampoline, hanging swing chairs kids can curl up in, tactile games and book stations. We also stocked noise-canceling earmuffs and headphones. Family seating sits right alongside. The bunk rooms continue the same ideas on a smaller scale, with low seating and a building-block wall.

The third floor is for older kids, with two TVs, video games, a card table and the hot tub. With each group on its own floor, the adults can gather downstairs while kids of every age have a place of their own.
